Mission Statement

The purpose of the Lay Leadership Training Program is to develop and maintain an on-going series of courses using qualified LCMS pastors and teachers to train lay persons, through a prescribed series of courses, enabling them to become certified by the Pacific Southwest District to assist pastors and congregations in carrying out the Great Commission.

LAY LEADERSHIP TRAINING 2010

Courses are open to all members of congregations in the Pacific Southwest District-LCMS who are interested in specific ministries that would be of value for the following
roles in the congregation:
… certified deacon or parish ministry assistant
… elders
… leadership
… care-giving and prayer ministry
… teaching Sunday School, Bible Classes, VBS
… evangelism and assimilation
… music and worship
… personal enrichment
… other areas will be added
Stand alone courses are offered to equip members for their interest or gift areas to assist and serve their Lord in their congregation. There will be more specific information regarding the program soon. You may contact Duane Rohmaller, Director of Lay Leadership Training at pswroh@aol.com.

THE ANNUAL CONTINUING EDUCATION CONFERENCE
For Deacons, Deaconesses and Parish Ministry Assistants is scheduled at two different locations in 2010.  The first one will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 760 Victoria Street, Costa Mesa, CA on Saturday, October 16.  The second one will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 820 East Plaza Circle, Litchfield Park, AZ on Saturday October 23.

Presenters will be Rev. Dr. Mike Gibson at Costa Mesa and Rev. David Bolte at Litchfield Park.  These two sites have been chosen in order to make travel more convenient for those attending the conferences this fall. Information will be sent out soon and will also be available on the District Web Site.  Make plans now to join as we come together for fellowship, study and learn from two great presenters.

ONLINE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE COURSE
Pacific Southwest District Lay Ministry Training will offer a CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE COURSE in an online format! If you can use an internet browser, send an E-mail, and watch a video, the entire course (except text book reading) is now available. Class interaction is done on your time schedule, through a discussion that is part of the program. Dr. Steven Mueller, professor and dean of Christ College at Concordia Irvine is the instructor, and Rev. Dustin Parker, pastor at Concordia Cerritos, is the mentor for the discussion group. A minimum of ten students are needed to start the course with a limit of fifteen. Some spots have already been filled. The course is 10 weeks in length, broken into manageable segments. For more information, please contact Rev. Dustin Parker at Cerritos.pastor@gmail.com.

Note:
Men and women who live in the Pacific Southwest District (PSD) who desire to become deacons or parish ministry assistants within their congregation may find it difficult because of distance to travel to onsite locations where Lay Leadership Training courses are offered. An alterative is to take the online courses offered through Leadership Advancement Process (LAP) and Mission Training Center (MTC). The courses would be accepted by the Pacific Southwest District Lay Leadership Training program. Final requirements upon completion of courses must be finished in the PSD before being commissioned as a deacon or parish ministry assistant in their congregation. People living near the site locations within the PSD desiring to become a deacon, parish ministry assistant or for personal enrichment are encouraged to take the courses within the Pacific Southwest District. Contact Duane Rohmaller, Director, for additional information at pswroh@aol.com.
